Ankle pants and killer heels

No pics of the Ann D’s just yet. I’m waiting for a set of inserts to arrive so I can customise the footbed before wearing them in earnest. Meanwhile, I’ve been putting in some practice with another tall shoe, and I wanted to try them with these pants.

I’m very fond of these Isabel Marant for H&M jeans but I’d been thinking for a while they’d look a whole lot better three inches shorter and with a frayed hem. I asked the question here a while ago and you all talked me out of it. Later on I realised a crop would open up many more options with shoes. Eventually I caved in and I took the shears to them.

When the deed was done I showed them to Mr Edge. He scowled and said they used to be lovely jeans. I said it was an improvement and now they were even nicer. Yes, but mutilation he replied.

No regrets though, because I must say I’m very happy with the result and he’s since admitted he likes them like this. It feels more contemporary with a high shaft boot or a flash of ankle with oxfords and sandals. I don’t want to go any shorter than this though, because I think the embellishment needs a margin to set it off and anyway the hems would get caught in my boots.

I tried them out with the Balenciagas for a bit of fun. I’d been thinking of passing these on but as soon as I put them on again I realised I couldn’t part with them. They wear like stilts and there will be no running for the metro, but they’ve put in some miles and have the scuffs to prove it. I’m not done with them yet.

They’re a fierce shoe and no mistake, but for most of the day I’ve been wearing a long-standing favourite, these wooden soled platforms by Margiela 22. Battered, heroic, first among equals.

Love the convo. between you and Mr. Edge.

That fit is fab and so is the ankle length.

    Love your shoes.

  • replied 7 years ago

Lord, you have the best shoes.  And i know exactly what you mean about that flash of ankle. It's absolutely critical to the look.

  • RobinF replied 7 years ago

Wow, I could never wear those heels but that look is fierce! Love the cropped pants.

  • Angie replied 7 years ago

Killer look on you. Pretty ankles. Love the blue. Are you growing your hair, Liz?

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 7 years ago

It's perfect for you. You were right to shorten the jeans.

  • rachylou replied 7 years ago

Slayed it! Laughing at the whole they're better mutilated convo :D

  • replied 7 years ago

The word I can say is "fabulous."

  • lpr200 replied 7 years ago

Worth th risk, and killer shoes!

  • Marilyn replied 7 years ago

Fantastic! You have to trust your gut.  Sometimes I think I've shortened jeans too much but I know if they were longer they'd look off.

Killer shoes!  Kudos for being able to wear them. :)

  • Elizabeth P replied 7 years ago

Yup, sometimes the gut knows just what to do.  I love this....

    Thumbs up

  • approprio replied 7 years ago

Thanks guys! It was a bit nerve wracking cutting into a favourite pair of jeans, but good to know the chop worked out and you approve!

lisap: I always say you can fake anything but you can't fake a good pair of shoes. And there's something very special about a tall shoe. Just ask Oscar ;)

RobinF, Marilyn, I should share a few of my high heel hacks one of these days, because I see this as an engineering problem. It's all about weight distribution.

Angie: is that code for "Liz! Get a haircut!!"? :D I'm quite enjoying this choppy bob at the moment and I think I'll keep it for the summer, but you're right, a trip to the salon needs to happen soon. I should make an appointment, thanks for the reminder.

  • jill58 replied 7 years ago

Those shoes are incredible. Nothing like a good heel to make you feel fantastic!

  • Kate replied 7 years ago

Love your jeans hack, and those fabulous shoes.

  • Marilyn replied 7 years ago

Approprio......I'd love a high heel hack tutorial!  I'm not willing to compromise on comfort any more and it definitely  limits my choices. But at 5' I love and want my heels.  Always happy to hear tips and tricks.

  • Style Fan replied 7 years ago

Those are amazing heels.  I forget what it is like to wear them.  I just look at them with envy.  They really add so much to an outfit.
    Great job with the jeans.

  • Angie replied 7 years ago

Liz, why don't you try a very textured bob.

  • cindysmith replied 7 years ago

    Love this outfit!

  • Joyce B replied 7 years ago

    YLF!

  • Jaime replied 7 years ago

If I could stand in those you would never pry them from my feet. Or at least my closet. Mutilation or art. Mutilation as art? You made the right decision.

  • Sveta replied 7 years ago

I think the jeans are awesome at this length. Way to show off those stunning shoes!

  • approprio replied 7 years ago

SVETA!!! WELCOME BACK!!!! Hope we'll get to see some of your amazing style again soon!

shevia: yeah, I'd somehow forgotten just how great these shoes are. It's fun to rediscover the transformative power of a heel.

Angie: I'm thinking along those lines, something that keeps the asymmetry but with a bit more of a fringe. I think this is as long as I want to go for the time being.

Hm, this seems to be a very popular outfit. Looks like I'm committed to the tyranny of the heel... um, thanks everyone, I guess :P

  • replied 7 years ago

The higher and more tyrannical the heel, the better I say!

  • Janet replied 7 years ago

How did I not yet comment on this?? Those shoes are amazeballs. I hear you on the heel heights -- I wore my turquoise Jeffrey Campbell boots with 4.5" heels to a birthday party recently because I knew I'd spend most of the evening seated, and dang I've missed those boots! I am just careful not to do that often. My feet don't bounce back quite as quickly as they used to.

I also love the jeans, and you were brave to hack them, but I like the length on you very much. It's a great look all around.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Love the jeans at this length and what a gorgeous textured richly coloured look -- the blue is amazing on you. Love with either footwear.

  • Angie replied 7 years ago

I'm excited to see the new 'do, Liz.

  • MsMaven replied 7 years ago

Great shoes. Fabulous outfit--I love what you've done.

  • approprio replied 7 years ago

Thanks so much everyone! I feel the imminent return of my High Heel style.... And I had to pick this up again, because Janet I need to see your turquoise boots!!! Do you have a find for them??

  • Gigi replied 7 years ago

Wow, this outfit is so amazing! I love how the blue of the sweater picks up the blue on the heels. Those shoes are definitely fierce. I love unique shoes too.

  • Jenni NZ replied 7 years ago

What Gigi said. Amazing boots and blues.

  • lyn67 replied 7 years ago

Wow, very sharp combo, fierce shoes and mutilated jeans!.-)

  • Eliza replied 7 years ago

Show stopping shoes. I am impressed that you can wear this powerful addition to your outfit. Well done! Love the striped heels.

  • Momo replied 7 years ago

Wow! Those shoes are amazing! The pants look really good too!

  • Bijou replied 7 years ago

Those heels - I am finding it hard to find words to convey how fabulous this look is - the jeans, the heels, your sweater and hair....all perfect. Where is Oscar when you need him? I am sure he would agree.

  • replied 7 years ago

Ha, Bijou, I certainly do agree.

  • Lisa replied 7 years ago

I can't pick a favorite here, I adore both the shoes and the print on the trousers.  A lovely combination.

  • Sammy Gregory replied 7 years ago

Very sharp, love the combo on you!

  • Beth Ann replied 7 years ago

Proportions are fab and you look terrific!

I do love a heeled oxford, and seeing your outfit makes me want to dig out mine to try with crops.  My look might not have the edge, but I think I'll give it a whirl!

What kind of socks do you wear with these?  (Because we need to keep our toes fresh and happy.)

  • Lyn D. replied 7 years ago

    STUNNING!

  • Bijou replied 7 years ago

So glad that Oscar chimed in - as a heels expert!

  • Lisa Rayes replied 7 years ago

Its sooo good!!! no doubt you have a great sense of fashion. You made an appreciable combo.
    Keep it up.

  • viva replied 7 years ago

Maybe my favorite outfit posting of yours ever???? Fabulous cohesion with the blue (that striped heel!) and I love the dramatic pant. The sweater is gorgeous contrasting with your hair. I'm just speechless. Well, obviously not ....
