From last year. I even got away with it last week. None of you noticed, or perhaps you were too polite to say.
I have every intention of repeating this horrifying faux pas as often as possible this season.

White socks with black? Looks cool on YOU. Pretty sure I couldn’t pull it off :-)
Hah! I think the white athletic sock look seems very intentional the way you've done it here.
But my husband tried to get away with it recently with dark shoes and jeans and I sent him back up to the room to change. :-D He also tried to wear dark socks with shorts with the same result. I think he just wants to see if I'm paying attention. LOL
Everything you wear looks intentional (as opposed to all my dark socks were in the laundry)--in each case the white just picks up the white in your shirt. Definitely not a look many people could pull off.
Somehow this really works! I'm kind of shocked (and in awe of you) I think so because white socks are one of my poison eye things. I don't even wear them to work out.
Definitely works! Very cool.
If it's the white socks it totally works for you! You can definitely pull it off.
My husband does this all the time. Maybe he's more hip than I think. LOL
I don't get it. I assume there is intent behind every piece you wear. And it always seems to work, to my eye.
Thanks for posting visuals for my post, Liz.
I don't see faux pas. I see Liz rocking her look and having fun with fashion. THAT'S what it's all about, and most welcome on YLF.
Fun to wear the striped socks in #1 with the striped top in #2. I know you have the Matchy-Matchy gene (like me).
Thanks all! It still feels a bit wrong to embrace something you've spent your whole life sneering at, but never say never.
Jill, Aquamarine, Jane once I started wearing black and white in earnest it wasn't such a huge step. And loud socks are a great way to add a bit of detail.
Janet, Marilyn, I'll admit my first tentative forays were with a pair of Mr Edge's running socks, (only in the interests of research, you understand.) Quality matters - these are from a boutique in Warsaw and Falke respectively.
Diana, I love telling my friends I've been wearing white flannel socks lately, just to see the looks on their faces. lisa p it's hardly a faux pas, more one of those things I thought I'd never do.
Angie, oh yes! I still love me some matchy-matchy. Or coordination, as we used to call it back in the day.
Naw, you’ve got it :)
Now see, I'm a little obtuse. I didn't see the link at the top of the page to the sock wearing blog post. I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to be seeing as "odd". Nothing is odd here to my eye!
Looks fine and intentional. In fact, I have always liked white socks with casual outfits. To my eye, white socks look clean. Especially good if there is some white otherwhere in the outfit, as in both of yours.
I figured it was deliberate. On you, it looks really good--instead of "American tourist in the Hawaiian shirt" (which is probably exactly how it would look on me)
I think the bit of color (white) elevates a look which might have been too dark or drab otherwise and makes a color-echo for the tops.
I think this works because of the white in your tops. Even the tiny bit of hem showing in the first photo is enough to make the whole outfit look intentional.
Looks intentional on you. I rather like how it looks.
You mean the sports socks? Actually, I thought they were trendy, I’m pretty sure I saw them strutting down some runway :)
I love both outfits.
Very fun. :)
WOW! skylurker! A compliment! Wait, I have to print this out so I can have it framed :P
Emily, you're absolutely right about the white accents. The grey sweater would be unwearable without them. See my latest musings on colour.
These white socks though, so many associations... they always make me think of London wide boys in loafers, but cindy, now I'm pondering Hawaiian shirts...
Yup, on you, it works.
I used to hate white socks with black shoes. When I came to Israel everyone wore white socks with everything. Eventually I got over it. I don't do it, but on you and your long legs it totally works.
I'm going to copy this.
I can’t believe I’m nodding along, yump, yump.
Oh, now I see:-)), and is not a faux pas on you at all, screams very intentional-and looks good, too! Thanx!
I love it! Great examples of Angie's post!
