Picasso Challenge #2: The Dream

The subject matter is easier today. To tell the truth, it feels a bit like cheating. I put this outfit together when Angie suggested citron/olive/cognac and I've been waiting for the weather to be warm enough to wear it. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw the picture.

I made the dress myself from a 1940's pattern. The fabric is grey on one side, citron on the other. You might be able to see in the picture that all the back panels are sunny side up.

The Margiela pour H&M coat belongs to Mr Edge but it's been on my back a fair bit  this winter. Along with my '80's mix tape bag I think it somewhat resembles the curtain behind her. I added a few coloured accents with resin accessories (eyewear, bling) and it's good to go.

What a great dress. love that you used the panels on the reverse side in the back.. The coat is fabulous too. I really like the neckline. Boots and cool back finish things off nicely.

It is absolutely perfect with Mr. Edge's coat, which I am glad he is happy to share. The bag actually reflects her necklace to me. Love your interpretations and your outfits!

I have to say I was surprised when I saw this look at first, but at second glance it all makes sense again. It's definitely awesome! The bag is really fun and I LOVE your dress. Great bling too. Coat and shoes complete the look perfectly...

    Heh, thanks ladies!

shevia funny you should say that, it's been the topic of some minor consternation this season. He's not exactly thrilled but he hasn't much choice. :P And I hadn't thought about the chain on the bag, thanks for pointing that out!

Astrid, I know, I know, but I did fess up and say I was cheating, no? I really tried to find a bit more colour, but somehow everything I tried just overwhelmed it. Now, if only I had Diane's lovely red bag...

YOU HAD ME WITH THE '80s HITS. (And British '80s music was best).

LOVE. (You clever lass making that frock). Your hair colour represents the back curtains perfectly.

Killer rendition approprio, and fun seeing the new tattoo. Also fun that you threw in a colour combination I suggested a while ago. Not cheating. You're using your brilliant head. WELL DONE.

Great dress!  I love your shoes as well.  The bag is really fun.

Great dress and bag!  Love the bold pop of citron; I think the bold, graphic strokes really convey something essential about the painting.

I really love your thought process. You make me feel a bit embarrassed of my literal color copy outfits lol!

That is one awesome dress and handbag :-)

What a beautiful outfit, approprio.  I love that coat on you - no wonder you have borrowed it so often.  This is a clever and subtle interpretation of the painting, and I may have to return to it  later to assimilate all the nuances.  Very, very nice.

Really stunning!   So much love for the dress, boots (bookend your cognac-y hair so well), coat and bag.    I remember when mixtapes had themes, like the color blue, or animals, or break up songs.   I still have a drawer full of 'emotionally significant' mixtape gifts from former boyfriends. :D

The dress is wonderful! It fits you beautifully and suits your style. I love it with those pointy toed boots. The whole outfit is great. And I'm enjoying the mix-tape nostalgia you've inspired.

Thanks so much ladies. Once again you really are too kind.

    Neel, Summer:
you give me far too much credit. I'm just looking and plundering my closet, same as everyone else ;)

Neel, Sara L, Diana: I'm enjoying your interpretations too. Keep up the good work!

Angie, rabbit, Firecreacker... ah yes, the mix tape. The bag is a new acquisition, a gift from my wonderful sister, who has such a knack of picking out the perfect thing for me. So what's on my '80s mix tape?

Only one thing today. Weird-period Kate Bush. The Dreaming.

Just fabulous! This works beautifully. The dress is amazing - you are so clever to have made it yourself.
