Urgent: which shoes?

Hi Fabulous!

I'm off to do a presentation to an audience of academics this afternoon. I know a couple of them and by and large they are fairly casual, so I think more or less anything goes but I'd still like to make a positive impression.

Here's what I'm wearing, but I can't decide on the shoes. The first pair feel very grounded and perhaps more appropriate to the audience. The second make me feel confident and maybe work better with the outfit. I'd be differently comfortable in either of them, so now it's up to you.

(And you can't see in the photo, but the skirt is a kind of cobwebby lace.)

Which do you prefer? Halp!

I like them both, maybe number two a little bit more. If they make you feel more confident, then those would be my pick!

Ooh, crumbs! This is tricky. I love them both. I think, I'm going to say #2 as I think it's confidence that would count in my book.

I like #2 with its clean, minimalistic lines. It makes your outfit more polished. You do look amazing!

Cross posted with RG and we picked the same!

Both look great, and I love the outfit!  I'd pick the confident shoes.  Because how you feel gives your entire presence that extra je ne sais quoi!

I vote the first pair. I think grounded is good for giving a presentation. Bonus points for meshing more with the audience.

Thanks so much everyone! I'm taking Astrid's advice and going with the first pair because I need to be focused on my story and ready for audience feedback. I'll save the second look for a sales pitch.

Good luck. I'm sure you are going to do well. :-)

Both look good to me. You look wonderful and confident in your outfit.

I'm totally torn. Love the detail of the first but also the cleaner line of the second. I really do think they both work well with the outfit, just depends on your mood. The good thing is, you can't go wrong with either!

I guess too late - but I vote for the first pair. The lacey vibe of the shoe works with all of the embroidery (more lace-like effect) on the top.....

  • Sara L. replied 8 years ago

Wow, I love both pairs.  I like your choice of #1 but you couldn't go wrong with either pair.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

I prefer #2 - but you're fab either way. Good luck with the presentation.

I think either would have worked really well fashion-wise, and grounded vs confident is a VERY tough call. Hope it all worked out fabulously!

Thanks so much for the feedback ladies!

In the end the first pair felt like the right choice. I agree that the second pair look that little bit more polished, but they might have been too much distraction for an exclusively male audience who were very casually dressed (at least two were in shorts and there was some very creative use of facial hair.)

Still, the second look may yet get an outing. It's fun to be that fiercely ladylike sometimes.

Great to hear you felt good with your choice and it worked out for the better. I know just what you mean about doing a presentation for a predominantly all-male audience. The 2nd look definitely deserves an outing!

PS: Shorts for a presentation?! That's way too casual, though not unheard of in design, right?! Now the creative use of facial hair is a whole other story!

Definily number 2, more elegants and better for a proffesional presentation.

  • rute replied 8 years ago

    another vote for 2

  • Astrid replied 8 years ago

Glad to hear the first pair worked out for you! I agree, definitely give outfit #2 an outing sometime soon. :)

  • jackiec replied 8 years ago

I think you made a good choice - but love both options.

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

I'm late but *I approve your pick.* Lol. #1 is funkier, more interesting.

  • Beth Ann replied 8 years ago

Bwuahaha, "creative with facial hair."  Love both versions of your outfit -- professional, but still interesting and fresh!

  • unfrumped replied 8 years ago

Okay, it's after the fact, which is a good thing , because to me both of these are  a lot of bare foot for a work presentation. I love the top and skirt, though.   But since you know your audience and environment, I will defer to that. Also, I do know how tricky it can be to find good, non-corporate, but non-drudgy or schtumpifying footwear--that's the bane of my skirt-outfit creation existence. Pants are so much easier but I keep plugging away with the pencil skirt outfits.

I would have said the first one! Best to keep well balanced.

Keep your head up.the first one is better
