WIW: McQueen tribute

Following my visit to the Savage Beauty exhibition this week I felt moved to put on some fierce tailoring and architectural shoes.

I don't have the build for the McQueen wasp waisted silhouette but I can definitely do the pointy shoulders. I've shown this dress here before, but not with shiny black accents to reference the notorious Dress No 13 from 1999. The United Nude Eamz heels are somewhat similar to the cantilevered sandals Shalom Harlow wore to be sprayed with paint by industrial robots.

This is probably only remotely McQueen in my dreams, where I too am a master craftsman with the tailoring skills to deliver a perfectly armoured lady cuirass. As you can see, the reality is soft and rumpled, but at least I can still ride my bicycle and I will only be sprayed with paint if I'm careless going past the building site.

Wow.  Those shoes are crazy - and can you ever do a strong shoulder line.  I'm in awe!

This is fabulous and the shoes are amazing!

Fabulous shoes! They do take centre stage, though I love that dress with the black accents added. Dramatic contrast.....love it.

    Those shoes are tough!

Fabulous! I can certainly see the reference to dress no 13.

Oooh, I love those shoes! Terrific interpretation into "real life" clothes of your inspiration!

My gosh those are fabulous shoes! I love your interpretation.

Love it! Always happy to see a sharp shoulder line (I think I'm one of the few ITs who enjoys wearing it), and those shoes are super fun. Also really like how the "pastel" vibe of the dress works with the severe black accents and your rich hair color.

You look amazing! I love this linen dress -- I adore a sharp shoulder and you do it to perfection. The shoes are so fab! I agree wholeheartedly with Aida on how interestingly the black and neon work together. It's a tribute to the 80s while at the same time completely modern. Brilliant!

    Wow! What Kiwigal said.

You're so creative. I see the inspiration. You're just a bad ass in the best way in my book.

Thanks ladies! As ever, you're all very kind.

A note on the shoes: the cantilevered heel is surprisingly comfortable, because the support under the arch tilts the weight away from the toes and back onto the heel. I'm a little out of practice (haven't worn them in months!) but I do like the way the elevation, along with the dress, changes the way I move.

Paradoxically, it feels quite empowering. I found myself sashaying around the supermarket like the aisles were some kind of catwalk, but I'm glad I didn't have to go very far.

I like this a lot.  The shoes are very powerful looking.  You wear the dress to perfection.  I love the look of strong shoulders.

    Fantastic!

Love the strong shoulder - believe you about the UN heels!

I've said it before, but I do love that two tone dress you made. And those fab shoes! I see what you mean about the heels moving the weight back off the balls of your feel. Bet it's a springey type feeling. You look great in this outfit!

I CAN see where you got your inspiration! Great outfit - feminine and fierce.

So well done!  Love it immensely  So many "arty" looks are drapey and unstructured.  I love the structured details and sharp lines here -- so effective with the rest of your look.

Fantastic outfit and shoes!  You've inspired me to watch some of McQueen's fashion shows on YouTube - which turned in to HOURS of fun.  He was truly a creative guy.

The dress looks wonderful on you, and your shoes are fabulous! This is way too good of an outfit to subject to a paint sprayer. :)
