WIW: Repeating myself

By way of a coda to my last post, I gave a lot of thought to all your comments and decided to give #2 another outing. As a result, this is what I wore to my teaching job today. (Yeah, a bunch of stuff you've seen before. Sorry about that.) I'm really feeling the black/grey pattern matching. And I think I've found the right camera angle.

I really love my teaching job. It's such a privilege to stand in front of students, share my knowledge and enthusiasm for things I feel passionate about and see that enthusiasm reflected back as it was in today's class. In much the same way, it's a pleasure to finally engage here and get a taste of so many different styles and approaches to a fundamental art form that's so often devalued and underrated because it's the preserve of women, and older women at that.

To tell the truth, it still feels a bit odd to be sharing something so personal with a bunch of strangers on the Internet, but it's so nice to be here at last that I'm wondering why I didn't do it before.

So I wanted to thank you all for pitching in and giving me feedback on what works best. And I don't want anyone to think they can't give me advice, because that last thread gave me plenty to think about and led to some new ideas on how I should put things together. Sometimes I need to know how to dial it down some, and any commentary is food for thought.

I agree, approprio, it is a privilege to be able to inform the next generation. And you do it in so much style!

I missed your first post but went back to read it. I love your outfits & think you look creative with a edge -  a look I love :) Agreeing with Angie about the glue to hold things together - before coming here I never thought about those pieces. It was hard at first because I had such an eclectic wardrobe but I have been slowly wearing my clothes, seeing how I feel in them & working out what I need to work with the more difficult pieces.

Ooh I love the hectic layering, drape, and subtle print mixing going on here -- particularly in #1.

It's lovely that you joined our community aproprio, and that you love your job. We value your participation enormously, and I appreciate your kind words about YLF on your profile page.

It's hard to add life to grey, but this outfit has LOTS of life because of the patterns and your bright orange hair. I'm loving it. I vote killer hectic drape. xo

This outfit is amazing, and you carry it off so well. You look perfectly at ease in it. To me, what's amazing is that you've taken four statement pieces-- five counting the boots--and put them together in such a way that they complement each other rather than fighting for attention. You dress yourself beautifully. If I had put on these drapey layers all together, I would feel swallowed up, and I'm sure I would project that feeling. You look cozily and beautifully adorned.

You have a serious lot of treasures when it comes to clothes. I need names, dates... lol.

I missed your earlier post until now, but I've got to say I'm enjoying your presence here on the forum. I love your unique style, and you really do seem to have a knack for finding interesting pieces that go beyond any kind of style decade to create a modern eclectic look. It certainly seems authentic to you.

I'm also really glad to read about your love for your job. It's such a huge blessing to do work you love.

I LOVE this! Absolutely stunning on you. I am a huge fan of graphic pattern mixes in neutrals.

And I am also in love with what you said about teaching. Your students are very lucky people. I'll bet they think you are stylish, too. :)

I love your outfit and your attitude. I've never gotten pattern mixing down. You, on the other hand, could teach a master class.

Thank you for sharing and please don't apologize for repeating items - I particularly enjoy that. I love your style!

Stunning! I agree with Angie, that the pattern, drape and texture add lots of interest and life to the grey tones.
